Merseyside Water Rescue

Registered Charity No. 1178185

Serving the Community & Saving Lives

We are a charity set up to preserve life in and around water, particularly at the South Liverpool Docks. Our volunteers operate a safety boat every Friday & Saturday evening between the hours of 8pm and midnight, whatever the weather. We aim to be there in those vital few minutes between a person entering the water and the arrival of the Emergency Services when the risks to life are greatest through cold water shock or even drowning.

Our members are trained in First Aid, boat handling, rescue techniques and communications. Everyone gives their time voluntarily, no salaries are paid. We also have 'back office' volunteers who help with finance & fundraising, social media, administration & legal matters.

Our Facebook page and Twitter feed will give you more information about what happens on the slip.

Our Activities

Our activities range from simply offering water safety advice to retrieving casualties from the water. We have helped the Emergency Services with searches of the water and helped people who have suffered falls & injured themselves.

We are affiliated with SLSGB giving us access to training, we a work with the support of the Canal & River Trust, and we are members of the Water Safety Forum (pictured below)

Our Boats

We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to the DUCHY OF LANCASTER who have supported us with repairs and upgrade to our RIB, and our overheads.

We would also like to say a huge THANK YOU to the PH HOLT FOUNDATION who supported us with funding for our second boat, the Funyak. She is smaller than the RIB, but large enough for a casualty and of sturdy polyethelene construction. Modified Funyaks are used by London Fire Brigade as rescue boats.

Having two boats makes us much more resilient.

Lottery Funding

Funding from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund distributed by the National Lottery has made it possible for us to buy Personal Protective Equipment for our volunteers and Rescue Equipment including reach poles, Throwbags and SAR torches for our volunteers.

Thank you to the Government for making this possible!

We carried out our safety boat cover throughout the lockdown, and helped people. It is wonderful for the efforts of our volunteers to be recognised in this way, and it also helps us to take on new members and increase the team.
